Kremlin Cup 2007 – Russia’s International Tennis Event

Sport enthusiasts, and particularly tennis enthusiasts, will certainly be looking forward to this year’s Kremlin Cup in Russia. This exciting annual tennis tournament will be held from the 6th to the 14th of October in 2007. The Kremlin Cup 2007 will be hosted at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow and is sure to attract large numbers of spectators, as it does each year.

The Kremlin Cup of Russia was established in 1990 and was the first International Professional Tennis Tournament in Russia’s sporting history. In its early stages the tennis tournament was purely for men and the prize money started at US$ 300 000. The women’s tournament was introduced to the Kremlin Cup in 1996. The year 2000 saw the first ever Men and Women Event in professional tennis, with an impressive prize of US$ 2 080 000.

Since its inception, the Kremlin Cup tennis tournament has become the largest in Russia and is also a world renowned event. The men’s section is run as an International Series Tournament as a part of the ATP Tour (Association of Tennis Professionals tour). The women’s tournament is considered a Tier 1 event in the WTA Tour (Women’s Tennis Association tour). The matches in the Kremlin Cup are played on carpets, indoors at the Olympic Stadium. 32 professional tennis players compete in the singles event and 16 pairs take part in the doubles draw. The 6th and 7th of October will be the Qualifying Draw for the Kremlin Cup 2007. This will be followed by the Main Draw from the 8th to the 14th of October. The prize money for the 2007 Kremlin Cup sits at US$2,340,000.

Some 70,000 spectators attended the Kremlin Cup 2006. Will you be amongst those who attend the 2007 tournament? The spectators’ area can be found on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the stadium. Here patrons can find cafés as well as display stands set up by the Tournament Partners. VIP ticket holders have access to the stadium arena where there will be a VIP restaurant, café, a commercial restaurant, display stands and more.
