Musical Olympus International Festival

St. Petersburg is an enchanting city with ancient palace-lined waterways and numerous beautifully-preserved relics from the days of the Russian Tsars. The 13th Musical Olympus International Festival from 25 May to 2 June 2008 invites more than 20 young award-winning musicians from 15 countries to showcase their immense talent to appreciative audiences in this culturally rich Russian city. Music-lovers can expect to be enchanted with performances by the world’s foremost young musicians accompanied by the renowned St. Petersburg Orchestras in stylish theater venues.

Held annually since 1996, the Musical Olympus International Festival presents winners of the most prestigious international music competitions including the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki, the ARD in Munich and the Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens. Young conductors, who have been top achievers in competitions such as the International Competition for Young Orchestra Conductors in Besancon and the Witold Lutoslawski International Competition for Young Conductors in Belostok, will also be featured at the festival. Audiences can look forward to hearing world-class musicians play the piano, cello, violin, wood-winds, brass, guitar, organ and double-bass. Soprano and bass vocalists will also feature on the program.

Highly gifted musicians and conductors that will be performing in the 2008 Musical Olympus International Festival include Ivan Stolbov (Russia), Marcin Zdunik (Poland), Fabrice Millischer (France), Nikolaus Rexroth (Germany), Yohanes Fischer (Germany), Yulianna Avdeeva (Russia), Maria Cecilia Munoz (Argentina), Ekaterina Godovanets (Russia), Darrell Ang (Singapore), Yulia Yufereva (Russia), Plamena Mangova (Bulgaria), Istvan Vardai (Hungary), Shi-Yeon Sung (Republic of Korea), Ben Kim (USA), Ramon Ortega Quero (Spain), Teo Gheorghiu (Switzerland), Petrit Ceku (Croatia) and Hayrapet Arakelyan (Armenia).

Under the patronage of the Honorary Committee of Musical Olympus, the festival is well supported by prominent artists throughout the world and has gained an excellent reputation in the performing arts world for its unique concept, as well as its high organizational standards. Each year the Musical Olympus International Festival draws more attention from global media and leading music agencies. It has also become an established event in the St. Petersburg cultural calendar, with music-lovers traveling from far and wide to enjoy the high standard of music presented.
