The most famous are: borsch (it’s a kind of soup, but it’s usually with tomato, so it’s red; there are many sorts of borsch, including Green borsch – with much greens, especially sorrel); pelmeni (something similar to ravioli); salad Olivye (or Russian salad) – a very tasty one ; bliny (-pl, [i] is pronounced like in closed syllable; in sing. it’ll be “blin”), or pancakes - traditional Russian pancakes are usually rather thick, but in fact thin bliny are in greater demand.

I laughed out loud at Hex's answer because I thought it was funny. Then I realized that it was probably true. I have pics of people getting married inside a McDonalds.

The most famous and popular food in Russia during my times there in 1974-75 was

Question Russian food

Velu:
What exactly is "Sasiski and Piva?"

CastleStormer:
You knew that Hex's answer was "Mc Donald's"? How?

AlAley:
You must be Russian?

Keni, "piva" is the Russian word for beer. And Velu is right because those are some serious beer drinkers.

And Hex actually wrote the word "hamburger" in Russian. Since McDonalds is our way of taking over that country by clogging their arteries with junk, I also made a joke. I was serious about their love for McDonalds. I have pictures of people actually getting married inside a McDonalds.
