2012.02.23 Volga Ski Track.wmv [05:18]
The event was held on Feb 23 2012 at Volga river ice reservoir near Kazan. The race distance was about 33km. The racers as cross country skiers as kiters also should visit 4 checkpoints and find special signs there. Some checkpoints hidden in island bush. or bridge columns so you need to do some back country walk and use gps navigation. по ходу гонки по маршруту казань -зеленодольск, дистанция около 33км, нужно было посетить 4 кпп и найти и зафиксировать в карточке знаки каждого кпп.. Первый знак в ветровой тени высокого берега и второй на опоре моста, находился достаточно легко, то 3й знак мы не смогли найти самостоятельно. Он был спрятан в глубине острова и со льда совершенно неприметен. Были жпс координаты, но сдохли батарейки и пришлось около часа ждать лыжников-туристов и уже по их наводке попали на знак. Кстати на этом знаке угостили вкусным чаем! В Зеленодольске я чуток продлил себе дистанцию и сгонял еще до ж\д моста через Волгу пофоткаться. Четвертый кпп он же и финиш был на станции Зеленый Дол.

Produkti Russia [02:47]
First, there is this old soviet truck parked in front of the countryside grocery : the driver boasts that it has been used in Afghanistan and made all the way back to Ruissia.... This truck seems extremely rustic and quite reliable in that sense, except that it mus be a gas-guzzling vehicule. The building houses something which is a staple of the Russian (and formerly Soviet) back country : Produkti means products and it is actually a grocery store with almost the same feel and flavors than in the soviet times : few products, mostly basic commodities and a not very friendly shop clerk. But this is Russia, and I love it !

House building in Russia [03:59]
Here is a traditional house being built in the Russian back country. This is a very common construction technique, even in today's Russia. Dry timbers are prepared and assembled with moss as cushion and insulation between the logs.

Slava's UAZ [03:54]
UAZ is a Russian all-terrain vehicules brand. There are newer UAZ models but the older ones are very beautiful and many are still on the road all over Russia, in particular in the back country where bad roads abound., as they can go over any type of dirt, gravel or mud road and are said to be very easy to fix by yourself.
