White whales are playing with the divers in the White Sea, Russia. Dive center Artic Circle, September 2010. Beluga/ White whale (Delphinapterus leucas) The White whales are living in Arctic and subArctic waters ranging from 50° N to 80° N (along the coasts of Alaska, Greenland, Canada & Russia). The White whales/ Belugas are also called the Sea Canary on account of its high-pitched squeaks, squeals & whistles. Can be long up to 5,5 m, weight up to 1.600 kg, female are smaller than a male. Feeding mainly on fish, also eat squid, octopus and crustaceans.

Being one of the independent states of the former communist country, people of Kandalaksha are slowly rising when it comes to economic stability. The place is known for it's coal mining and of course, the endangered white whale or beluga.
