Lost Islands - An Amateur Radio Polar Diary 2001 [58:49]
In April 2001, a team of amateur radio operators and support team members embarked on a journey to the "Lost Islands of Central Arctic", an area above Russia, just shy of the permanently-frozen arctic circle. These Islands were at one time never marked on any map, as they were strategic military 'assets' of the USSR. Now, they are documented and in this Diary, you get to journey with the expeditionary team. Narration is in English, by Igor Belozerov. They went from Island to Island, spending time at each, to 'activate' the island on the amateur radio bands. This is a fantastic documentary of this expedition (known as a DX-pedition by the amateur radio community), as shared with the radio community Alex, RX3AEX. Kuban Cossacks performing in the streets of Krasnodar. Kuban Cossacks is a military community in the south of Russia. Cossacks served as border guards and protectors of towns, forts, settlements and trading posts, performed policing functions on the frontiers and also came to represent an integral part of the Russian army. The community of Kuban Cossacks is preserved in Krasnodar region and now has its school and contributes a lot to Kuban culture.
