Me verán entrando a la embarcación que nos llevará por el ventoso Canal de Beagle hasta el Faro "Les Eclaireurs" (mal llamado Faro del Fin del Mundo), y por casi todas las Islas Bridges. Las mismas que son argentinas, llevan el nombre de todos los hijos de un hombre inglés de pacífica trayectoria que vivió por aquí hacia finales del Siglo XIX: el Reverendo Thomas Bridges quien fuera nacido en Bristol, Inglaterra y llevado a vivir de niño luego a las Islas Malvinas, y que luego de crecer y estudiar, fuera uno de los primeros visitantes de etnia caucásica que tuvo contacto con los antiguos habitantes aborígenes, en sus misiones anglicanas, que además fundara la famosa Estancia Harberton... Thomas Bridges murió camino a Buenos Aires y sus restos se encuentran en el Cementerio Británico de Buenos Aires, en el barrio porteño de la Chacarita... Pero esa es otra historia y por ello en otro momento contaré un poco sobre la historia de este caso... Me siento al lado de Claudia, que cultivamos una linda amistad durante toda nuestra estadía en el Sur del Mundo... Claudia es lo que se dice una "trotamundos" o viajera típica de Alemania... Recorrió casi todo el mundo a su corta edad... LET L-410 Turbolet Landing Accident in Rtishchevo, Russia.mp4 [01:27]
This video shows a landing accident of a type that is rarely caught by the camera. The event takes place at Rtishchevo, a town in south-western Russia, about 200miles/500km SE of Moscow. It involves a LET L-410 Turbolet, an a/c manufactured in the Czech Republic. The a/c sustained sufficient damage during the landing to cause it to be written off. There are some valuable flying lessons to be learnt from this accident, so it's worth analysing the sequence of events. On the first touchdown, the L-410 is flying approximately level & parallel to the runway, so both the nosewheel & main gear contact the runway at virtually the same time. The touchdown is not at all heavy, but because the a/c has been approaching with excessive airspeed & appears to not be reducing that speed, it is assumed the PF (Pilot Flying) has had too much power selected on finals & during the initial flare. In addition, it appears the PF has failed to pull the power back to idle on touchdown. The combination of an airspeed which is still sufficient to keep the a/c flying approximately level with a level-fuselage attitude(ie an airspeed which is still somewhat above stall speed or maybe even above approach speed), of too much power (ie power not back at idle) & of the rebound from the undercarriage oleo springs that have been compressed on touchdown, has resulted in the a/c bouncing back into the air.
