Beauty Contest For Young Mothers, Moscow [03:20]
The Polyanka Art Hall hosted the Mrs Moskovia 2012 beauty pageant on Saturday, bringing together the most beautiful young mothers from the Russian capital and the Moscow Region. Svetlana Vorobyova was one of just 16 finalists who beat out thousands of entrants to make it into the grand finale. "My family helps a lot. My daughters go to dance classes. My husband and my parents support me so much. We have to set an example to our kids", she said. And Svetlana most certainly fits the bill. The 33-year-old has four children - three daughters and a son. The economist is also currently studying for a second degree. Svetlana has been back-stage most of the day. Irina Kirsanova won first prize last year. "I was very happy to get the title, any woman would be happy to be valued that high and especially to be crowned. My life has changed a lot. I had quite a busy year. I got exciting experience and lots of discoveries and activities." The event suitably took place on the same weekend as Mothers' Day here in Russia. CouchSurfing in Siberia to the edge of the world [16:53]
Produced for the CouchSurfing video contest. The more likes I get, the better, so click LIKE! In 2010 I spent nearly 3 months travelling by the cheapest means possible to all the interesting places between Beijing and Magadan. This video focuses on the section where I hitchhiked 2000km along the Road of Bones, exploring abandoned cities and narrowly escaping death myself. At 17 minutes, it's lengthy for a youtube video, but it's a lot shorter than the 17 DAYS it took to travel that section. Along the way I met the most incredible people, couchsurfed with people who had joined the website years before (or a day after!) but hadn't met any travelers or foreigners before they met me. When I set out, I had little more than a Russian dictionary and boundless optimism. When I returned, I was not the same as I was before. I'm always happy to provide what information I can about the area, and wrote most of the wikitravel articles addressing the North-East corner of the Asian continent. Happy travels!
