There is a sense of examining how we got to where we are with our understanding of war in 1941 and where we were to go with it into the future. And its the prospects for the future that make major conflicts so exciting and the thing I had forgotten through not having been to one for more than a few years now. There is that sense of being led not just to the cutting edge of battle but encouraged to peer over that edge at what might be coming next. While the view of the near future might not always be perfectly clear, one thing that few if any would deny is that the cutting edge of the Blitzkrieg has moved a long way from the school or even undergraduate, military textbook version. A very long way.
