The Republic of Karelia [01:01]
The Republic of Karelia is located in the northwest of Russia. It's a land of a stark, but overwhelming beauty. Karelia has over 20 thousand rivers, and 60 thousand lakes, a paradise for every fisherman. Water tourism routes stretch across the White Sea and Lakes Ladoga and Onega. Russia's most famous monasteries are located on the Solovetsky Islands and the Valaam Archipelago. And on Kizhi Island there is the historic museum of Russian Wooden Architecture. In the Kalevala district, you can visit villages where well known folk songs were written, and enjoy Kalevala, the famous genre of Karelian-Finnish epic poetry. The Republic of Karelia is a land of folk takes and poetic lakes.

Cruising with Carnival Sensation Cruise Ship [01:50]
The Sensation is a Fantasy class cruise ship, which began operation with Carnival Cruise Lines in 1993. She was the third ship to be built in the Fantasy class. The Sensation returned to active cruise service on February 12, 2009 after an extensive drydocking and refit. During the refit, 98 private balconies were added to former ocean view rooms. An adults only sunning area called Serenity was added to Promenade Deck, aft. A children's water park area was installed on Verandah Deck, aft, in an area formerly used as a pool and sunning area. The Sensation's main pool area on Lido Deck, midship, was renovated and the water slide was removed. Other renovations included new carpeting in public spaces and in her main dining rooms. Today, Sensation does 3 and 4 night cruises out of Port Canaveral, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas and Freeport, Bahamas. Hurricane Katrina Sensation was one of several cruise ships chartered by the US Government to provide accommodation for refugees and relief workers following Hurricane Katrina. After being released from Federal Emergency Management Agency service, the Sensation began cruising from Port Canaveral, replacing the Fantasy on Carnival's 3 and 4 day cruises from Port Canaveral. The town does not have too much to offer, but we got to see great friends and meet new ones!!! Mike Hermann, a guy Jana went to A&M with, Amit, a guy I met through Hermann, Ali, and Allison, both friends of Amit's from Wharton MBA program, were on their way on the train too, just the opposite direction finishing in Beijing. They were cool enough to plan to meet up. We had given up seeing them because our schedule was a little different than we thought and we had not heard from them after sending a message via email...BUT we met them in the lobby of our hotel! So awesome to see fimilair faces. We shared lunch, beers and bowling. It was awesome to see them, even for a few moments! What great memories! We took a few walks around Irkutsk. One thing to mention, weddings in Russia take tours around the towns for photoshoots. The entire wedding party follows the couple around with champagne. Also, the "witnesses" or bestman and bride's maid wear shashes like beauty queens to make sure everyone knows who they are. Irkutsk had a new tradition along the riverside. Each wedding couple would place a lock at the gate. Most of them had been engraved with names and dates of the wedding. The locks were to symbolize the ...
