Russian-American Bluegrass Harmony in St. Petersburg! [04:00]
On July 22-23, 2010, St. Petersburg hosted Pete & Joan Wernick from Colorado. The sound of bluegrass filled St. Petersburg's airwaves when Pete Wernick ("Dr. Banjo") along with guitarist-wife Joan Wernick and fiddler-friend Justin Hoffenberg played live on Radio Peterburg -- Russia's oldest radio station with an estimated 600000 listeners. They later teamed up with St. Petersburg's "Fine Street" to hold a special concert for the local press and musical community at the US Consul General's Residence before performing at the jam-packed Jazz Fusion Club. The following night, St. Petersburg's historic Rodina Movie Theater showed William S. Hart's 1925 masterpiece 'Tumbleweeds' to the lonesome twang of Pete Wernick's banjo. Sponsored by the US Consulate General in St. Petersburg.

Hitchhiking Around the World in 777 Days [04:06]
Everyone learns differently. Some read books, some watch movies... but for one Siberian man, he decided the best way to learn is to hitchhike around the globe. His trip will last 777 days and will take him to five continents. Our correspondent from St. Petersburg has the details. On the 18 of June, Konstantin Zhuravlev took a backpack and left his hometown of Tomsk, setting off to hitchhike around the world. Just two years ago his life was quite ordinary: home and work. But a growing thirst for freedom would not give him a moment's peace. In the summer of 2008, he retired from his job as a computer programmer and went hitchhiking for the first time. [Konstantin Zhuravlev, Hitchhiker]: "And it showed that life before the trip is one thing, but the traveling is quite another fabulous, wonderful life." Immediately after Konstantin returned he decided to go hitchhiking again, but this time it would be a worldwide trip. For Konstantin, this is the highest expression of freedom. [Konstantin Zhuravlev, Hitchhiker]: "You go wherever you want, you put a tent where you want, you eat when you want, what you want, you take pictures, you look around, you live." Traveling in such a way in 2008 took him to Russia and Ukraine, also the Crimea, and later the Carpathians. Now his round-the-world itinerary will pass through Europe, Africa, the Americas, Australia and Asia --more than 50 countries in all. And everywhere he goes, Konstantin wants not only to tell people about his native ...

Helsinki Electrical Storm August 2010 [04:09]
Helsingin Myrsky, Alpillanpuisto Festivaali..08.08.2010. A massive thunder and lightening storm suddenly hits Helsinki at 21.00hrs during the Alpilla Music Festival, just as Nieminen and Litmanen hit the stage. The storm shut the concert down, and thousands of frightened Finns ran for their lives as the winds blew a massive Force 8 gale and the rain fell in sheets. Just minutes before the storm, everybody was complaining of the heat. The thirty degree temperatures, coupled with the smog and dust of the fires blowing in from nearby Russia, made breathing difficult throughout the day. But within a few moments all were drenched to the skin and shivering in the sudden heavy rains and the temperature drop. A truly spectacular natural event to witness. More photos available in the Finnish press. No deaths were reported, though several homes were destroyed across the country, and several motorways and rail lines closed. An truly spectacular natural phenomenon.
