The Novgorod Region [01:01]

The Pskov Region [01:01]

The Republic of Karelia [01:01]

Vologda Region [01:01]
The Vologda Region, in the north-west of Russia, is a land of forests and lakes. Since the old days it's been one of Russia's hidden places. The Moscow Tsar used to keep the treasury of the Russian state here. Monks and icon painters used to go to Lake Beloye to keep faith with their traditions. Pilgrims from all over the world come to Vologda and Goritsy, to honour Cyril and Therapont, to experience peace of mind and to seek truth and wisdom. The people of Vologda maintain the customs and traditions of the Russian north. Every summer different generations gather here to preserve these time-honoured rites. However, in the north winters are long and occupied with lengthy hunting trips and adventures. Father Frost, the Russian Santa Claus, welcomes children and adults alike to his Vologda mansion.
