Americans Still Killing Russian Babies And Children [02:37]
SOUNDBITE: Pavel Astakhov, Russian child rights ombudsman (speaking Russian): "During the three years of our work, the number of reported orphans has decreased by 35 %, whereas the number of children adopted by foreigners and taken abroad has decreased by 64 % during the same period. I am against the lowering of the age limit for criminal accountability down to 12 years, while some zealots suggest it should be 10 as in some bodies of crime in the USA. Nevertheless we are now facing a criminal responsibility for children who commit crimes of medium gravity. It's normal in international practice -- no unfriendly act of one state towards another should remain unanswered. As we say that the so-called Dima Yakovlev List Act is will be passed in retaliation to these unfriendly actions of the US legislators [Magnitsky Act], I believe such a bill should have been passed back in 2010. Then, when Artyom Savelyev was thrown out of America, which demonstrated how the US foster parents didn't respect the Russian law, as well as the US law -- it was all done against the US law -- and they don't respect our orphans. The children were killed. Such restrictions should have been introduced back then. And any adopting should have been banned at all. For months, we've been asking for the full information to be provided about the children from Russia, citizens of Russia - who are living in their foster families -- to no avail. No lists are available. No information is there. Therefore this ...
"The Red Centre" Kevgregory's photos around Alice Springs, Australia [01:53]
A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Alice Springs, Australia by TravelPod blogger Kevgregory titled "The Red Centre" Kevgregory's travel blog entry: "Well I finally made it to that big rock in the centre of Australia, it's only taken a decade or so of visits to this 'small Island' of tardis like proportions. In reality you do start to realize just how large the land mass of Australia really is, so lets take a rain check here, there are 21 million people occupying a space the size of Continental Europe (excluding Russia) or America and Canada combined (excluding Alaska) and most population centres tend to be on the east coast with only Perth as the major hub on the south west coast, Darwin is just a village on the northern tip. To save time I opted to fly into Alice and take a drive south to Adelaide a few days later. Flying over the Simpson desert it was easy to see how the red centre got its name, the sand here is a firery terracotta red, from the air it feels like you have actually left plant Earth and are now in orbit around Mars such is the colour and sheer isolation of this region. So why build a town in the middle of such an arid landscape, well quite simply water is plentiful, it just happens to be in upside down rivers, that is to say the river courses around Alice Springs run underground. I had flow thousands of kilometers from drought plagued Brisbane where there were water restrictions in place, across some of the most inhospitable land known ...
