Plane crash in Siberia kills 31 [01:26]
ATR Crash A passenger plane crashed in Siberia shortly after taking off Monday morning, killing 31 of the 43 people on board, Russian emergency officials said. The 12 survivors were hospitalized in serious condition. The ATR-72, a French-Italian-made twin-engine turboprop, operated by UTair was flying from Tyumen to the oil town of Surgut with 39 passengers and four crew. The aircraft went down on a snowy field outside Tyumen, a major regional center in Siberia about 1700 kilometers (1000 miles) east of Moscow. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear. TU-154 crashes outside Smolensk,Russia. 96 onboard.Polish President killed [03:15]
Polish Air Force plane TU-154M, regn 101,crashed in Russia,believed 96(88 passengers and 8 crew) onboard.no survivors,was enroute from Warsaw to Smolensk. crashed in thick fog. Occurred at 1056hrs local time/0756hrs CET. Polish president and his wife both believed killed.,and other Polish officials. The aircraft was on approach to Smolensk airport,it collided with some trees,then crashed,about 300-400metres away. Russian local authorities suggest the accident was due to Human Error-by pilot clipping the trees upon landing. Apparently the pilot was offered to divert to Moscow or Minsk,but decided to land at Smolensk in the thick fog. see Russian newspaper report = en.rian.ru
