Memories of Russia [02:17]
In this video Patrick Treacy remembers a visit to Russia in Jan 1992 just after the attempted coup. The 1991 Soviet coup d'état attempt (19--21 August 1991), also known as the August Putsch or August Coup (Russian: Августовский путч, Translit: Avgustovsky Putch), was an attempt by a group of members of the Soviet Union's government to take control of the country from Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev. The coup leaders were hard-line members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) who were opposed to Gorbachev's reform program and the new union treaty that he had negotiated which decentralised much of the central government's power to the republics.

Tashkent - Uzbekistan 2011 [05:43]
History lessons come alive .. Tashkent to me conjures up the city where our prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri died under mysterious circumstances on 11th. January 1966 one day after the peace treaty was signed by India and Pakistan. What i found in post Russian Tashkent is a clean pretty city , with overbearing and sometimes much too grandeous architecture and monuments , what touched my heart completely are the warm and friendly people of Uzbekistan , the food , their markets , their culture which has survived despite dry , cold , successive and supressive regimes - even to date.
