Volga Region

The Volga Region is one of Russia’s twelve economic regions. It is also sometimes called the Povolsky Region and is located in the north-east corner of Russia. The Volga region is made up of eight sub-regions, namely the Astrakhan Oblast , the Republic of Kalmykia, the Penza Oblast, the Samara Oblast, the Saratov Oblast, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Ulyanovsk Oblast and the Volgograd Oblast. Each sub-region has its own appeal.

The Volga Region in Russia is an incredibly beautiful part of the country. It is a place where rivers run deep and the vegetation is thick and filled with an abundance of wildlife. It is also a place that is rich in history, having once been home to the Golden Hordes before becoming a part of the Tartar feudal state. Most of the attractions here are natural. A prime example of this is the Cherny Zemli Nature Reserve where visitors may spot the saiga antelope. Visitors will also find a seemingly endless number of picturesque lakes and rivers worth seeing. Libraries, museums, galleries, historical monuments, bustling cities and impressive economic projects will also keep the average visitor entertained during their stay here.

Visitors to the Volga Region will find that it is an area of contrasts. Life appears to be better for people in the Volga Region in many respects. For example, the life expectancy for both men and woman in the area is slightly higher than the national average. People living in this region are also more likely to have consumer goods and the local economy is good. While it seems that people living in the Volga Region are more likely to have a higher standard of living, they also seem to work harder and get paid less. The GDP for the region is lower than the national average, as are regional wage levels. While more people in the Volga Region have access to second jobs than those in other parts of the country, the instances of irregular payment are also higher than in other parts of the country. Nevertheless the people of the Volga Region seem to exude optimism.
